Fanfiction That Is Legal

Also what I mean by legal isn't that you can't write for other fandoms but rather you can publish it without the creators permission and it doesn't need to be published online. Now I understand not everyone enjoys fanfics so just in case you are curious these are the charachters AND books you can write for. (You can do copyrighted ones like "Chronicles of Narnia" with permission if it is both name and plot and then their are some books that you never would have guessed were fanfics if they don't say they were and everyone's and the places names are changed). Anyways, that was off topic below are public domain books you and/or your family could publish with all of the names staying unchanged. "Gone With The Wind" if not for the 1990 act would have been in public domain a few years ago but since it isn't it's not included. I'm also including when they could have but didn't necessarily go into public domain probably just so that they don't get into trouble. Works: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (Though their are a lot of fanfics). If we are going by the fact of when the book was published then 1908 but since we do it for the authors life plus at least nintey-five years for anonymous people it would actually be 1912 for this, "Emma", "Sense and Sensibility", "Persuasion", "Mansfield Park" and "Northanger Abbey". Fact: If you look these up then her unfinished works you will notice that their are at least 600+ fanfics meanwhile if you look at "Sandition" and "The Watsons" on LibraryThing (which I don't know how trustworthy it is) they only have around 100 and 52 respectively and those two were unfinished. Charolette Bronte and her sisters are a few other examples. Little House On The Praire (Before the TV Show unless otherwise stated by someone else). Though this one is questionable with the TV show being around. Emmuska Ozcry's work. 1840 or before for Johnathan Swift. So anything from before 1929 and before then is in public domain unless stated by the author or unless it got an adaption afterwards or it was stated by one of their relatives but if you Google them and if you see fanfics published it is definitely safe to do so yourself. Also it is 1929 and before as of 2025 which is when I wrote this so if it isn't 2025 please Google when the story will become public domain. This really goes for any type of media though.
